I was hired as a System Design Intern for the summers of 2023 and 2024 for Ambrus Studio, a game studio founded by Johnson Yeh (Ex-Executive Producer at Riot Games). I worked on E4C: Final Salvation, a new MOBA game launching in September 2024
In 2023 I designed a Talent System that bolstered player agency within matches and led to more tangible evidence of progression throughout each match. The source of the issue was the game's reworked item system, which traded traditional MOBA items for purchasing attribute upgrades directly. The Talent System was created to offer effects to players that were tailored per individual hero, allowing for better counter play during a match. Eventually, the Talent System was deemed to become the main progression system, replacing the attribute buying system.
When I returned to Ambrus in 2024, I continued to iterate on the Talent System, adding integrated attribute purchases that initially are tailored per hero, but offered the option for player-chosen attributes to allow for experimentation.
My other responsibility in both years was to aid hero design and development. In 2023 I worked on hero kits that would eventually become the heroes Sekh and Veer, a marksman and bruiser type hero respectively. In 2024 I was allowed to design and create heroes from scratch, leading to the creation of my two original heroes Nan0 and Deadbeard, a mage and bruiser hero respectively.
The time I spent working with Ambrus was not only valuable to my growth but also gave me the chance to design something substantial for the largest game project I have ever been a part of. Since it's launch, E4C has been downloaded over 100,000 times on the Google Play Store.
